Vacation Bible School
When we go into a Ugandan village, it's common for the kids to notice our van coming and run ahead of us, announcing that we are there. Then everyone has assembled when we get there!
This means that VBS will have a great turnout. We need several people willing to help run carnival type games for the kids, organize races, and do special Gospel-sharing activities for them.

Mentoring Children
God approaches us within relationship with his Son, Jesus Christ. Likewise, to share that love with others, we approach people in terms of relationships. Most of the children in our program have at least one loving parent. It's common for children to live with a single mom, or with an "auntie" in the community - someone who loves them deeply! We want to support these relationships to the best of our ability. That is where mentoring comes in.
Those of you who have children know that your children often listen to other people more than they listen to you, even if you've told them the same thing a thousand times. That transcends culture and background. That's why it's so important to get children connected with healthy adults who are willing to pour into their lives and support them as they grow.
Not all children have loving relationships at home, however. Some children get overlooked. Mentoring becomes doubly important when children have no positive influences in their lives.
Over the years, we have clearly seen the difference mentoring makes. The differences in the children's lives are huge - and heartbreaking for those kids without mentors.
So, what are we doing on this trip? We will conduct a brief interview with every child who wants to receive letters from an American mentor. We will take notes on their personality, likes and dislikes, any background information we can get, and family information. We will also take a great pictures of each child, and give them a copy, too! Then we will be prepared to advocate for all of the children.
Additionally, on this trip, we have an amazing opportunity to offer mentoring within one of Uganda's biggest refugee camps. The children there come from many different backgrounds, and have often lost their parents in one of Africa's many violent conflicts. They have all suffered tremendously before coming to Uganda. We are so honored to have the opportunity to include them in our mentoring program.
